The non-exempt job classification is covered under The McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act (SCA) and the contract's collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Service employees are compensated per the prevailing wage rates and fringe benefits that are set by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Wage and Hour Division's WDs 29 CFR Part 541 and 29 CFR 4.163(f), unless otherwise modified by a CBA between labor and management.


Job Summary

The Woodworker constructs and repairs items such as boxes, crates, pallets, and storage bins from wood and wood substitutes, studies specifications; and measures, marks, and cuts boards, using patterns, templates, ruler, pencil, and hand and power saws. This worker fastens or installs parts, using hammer, nailing machine, or power staple, repairs defective containers by replacing damaged parts, inserts wood bracings, cardboard files, and felt pads in containers. This incumbent may build crate around object, using ruler, hand tools, and pneumatic nailer, may fabricate, repair, modify, and replace woodwork on vehicle sides and beds, apply preservative to prolong wood life, and may pack, seal, band, and apply markings to crates and containers. Woodworker reports to Packer Lead, Warehouse Supervisor, and management.


Essential Functions:

  • Understand and meet established productivity and quality control goals associated with assigned functional area / process.
  • Understand and use the Government provided Warehouse Management System (WMS) and other Government Data Systems to perform the requirements of the Performance Work Statement (PWS).
  • Follow established guidelines in performing day-to-day routine tasks as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)/Job Breakdown sheets (JBS), Technical Manuals, and Audit Readiness standards.
  • Understand the Acceptable Performance Levels (APL's) associated with assigned functional work areas / process and work expeditiously to meet contractual and team goals.
  • Adhere to Government and Company policies and procedures.
  • Constructs and installs or provides parts and blocking and bracing. These parts include items such as banding, strapping, tie downs, blocks, chocks, hooks, or cradles, required to secure or encase items in containers or on pallets and skids including construction of wooden containers per detailed drawing.
  • Responsive communication to the Compliance Team (Inventory, Customer Service, and Quality Control) regarding any system discrepancies that cannot be resolved.
  • Ability to use e-mail to receive and disseminate workload tasks and information.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with co-workers, site management and CGA regarding operations and policies at the Distribution Center.
  • Maintain a safe and secure work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in association with established Management and Contract Compliance Plan, Storage Plan and workload requirements.
  • Operate forklift, pallet jack, and other MHE.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

  • Must be able to frequently handle equipment/supplies weighing 30-50 pounds individually and occasionally items weighing in excess of 50 pounds with assistance
  • Must be able to exert moderate physical effort in the loading, unloading, and arranging of equipment/supplies
  • Have the ability to work inside and outside in dirty and dusty environments, and occasionally be exposed to hot, cold, damp and drafty weather conditions while handling equipment/supplies
  • Be able to perform work on hard or uneven surfaces

Qualifications

Experience:

  • One (1) year Wood working tools Ie: saws, drills, nail guns experience in a work setting.
  • Knowledge of the governing supply systems, programs, policies, nomenclature, work methods, manuals, or other established guidelines to include Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Skilled in planning, controlling, executing, multi-tasking and being responsible for the successful completion of work requirements.

Skills:

  • Carpentry and woodworking capabilities
  • Must demonstrate the ability to effectively read and write in English, and comprehend written instructions, perform common mathematical and measurement tasks, and communicate effectively.
  • Fully knowledgeable in all Government and Commercial Traffic Management functions and processes, to include international shipping requirements, laws, and procedures

Certificate, License, Registration, etc.:

  • US Citizen
  • Must possess or able to obtain a secret security clearance and military Common Access Card (CAC) within 30 days if required
  • Successful completion of WMS training, OSHA compliance, and associated DLA SOP and company mandated training applicable to position.
  • Possess a valid Driver's License

Education

  • High school graduate or equivalent (GED).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with hazardous materiel storage and shipments
  • Military or DLA experience
