Small Arms Inspector

The Small Arms Inspector/Repairer performs major repairs on foreign and domestic standard and non-standard small arms weapons, can build either custom pistols or rifles with little or no supervision, possesses excellent knowledge of gun-smiting tools and procedures, and possesses moderate knowledge of firearms operating principles and ballistics. This position has a thorough understanding of firearm operation principles, has a moderate knowledge of internal/external ballistic theories, can fabricate special jigs, fixtures and other special tooling with some supervision, can read and understand blueprint drawings, and can work from those drawings under direct supervision. This position can perform as primary instructor on most standard and non-standard small arms weapon systems. This position may require computer literacy.

Duties

  • Perform visual, dimensional and functional quality inspections; quality assurance audits; and prepare inspection reports on a variety of ordnance equipment.
  • Inspect for dimensional control, tolerance, wear corrosion, structural surface defects, alignment, workmanship, correct assembly, and compliance with blueprints, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Inspect repair work during and after progress to include operational testing.
  • Determine proper identification, proper condition code, presence of SL3 items; supplies information required for Quality Deficiency Report (QDR) to be initiated when items are deficient; or SF- 364 Supply Discrepancy Report (SDR) when items are missing components.
  • Inspect for in-transit damage, quantity, documentation, completeness, and modifications, packing, packaging, preservation, marking and other requirements as specified in the appropriate contract purchase order, or delivery order and military specifications.
  • Perform set assembly inspections prior to preservation, packing and packaging action, for accuracy, serviceability, shelf life, calibration, condition coding and possible hazardous and radiological materials.

Requirements

Successful candidates must possess:

  • Prior experience in small arms inspection
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level clearance
  • Ability to pass an Arms, Ammunition & Explosives Medical Screening
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
