Heavy Equipment Repair/Preservation

The Heavy Equipment Repairer/Preservation technician performs a variety of minor repairs and services to maintain motor vehicles. The Repairer/Preservationist places and maintains decals on vehicles, checks and replaces batteries, rotates, repairs, and replaces tires, washes, polishes, and cleans interiors and exteriors of vehicles, drains, flushes, and replaces engine, transmission, and differential grease and oils, checks, cleans, calibrates, and replaces spark plugs, cleans and replaces oil and air filters. The Repairer/Preservationist adjusts brakes, replaces windshield wipers, and similar minor parts, assists on major overhaul jobs by disassembling and cleaning parts, repairing components such as generators and water pumps, and replacing thermostats, points, electrical wiring and other items, maintains tools and equipment, and cleans work areas.

Duties

• Provide daily updates to the government shop supervisor.
• Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance as required.
• Performs disassembly, makes minor mechanical repairs, applies modifications, assembles and performs other duties in the repair of various PEI's.
• Inspects parts for wear, reclaims used parts for reuse or replace with new parts.
• Removes rust by use of portable tools and removes contaminants with approved solvents.
• Preserves equipment and performs stenciling, tagging and labeling of equipment.
• Notes and reports any discrepancy, non-conformity, damage, or missing parts to maintenance supervisor immediately.
• Will report any HAZMAT spills or leaks immediately to the maintenance supervisor.
• Will maintain work area in a high state of police at all times.
• Will ensure all required PPE and safety procedures are used during performance of work.
• Will maintain and keep current all required licenses and training certifications.  

Requirements

Successful candidates must possess:

• Prior experience with heavy equipment and the tools necessary for repair and preservation
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability and willingness to work closely with the shop supervisor
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC)
• Current OSHA 25K Forklift and Mule train certification
• Current USG Operator license
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Ability to be present at work each day and work the hours of the assigned shift
• Willing to work occasional over time to include weekends
