About the Position
The Transportation Manager oversees a freight terminal responsible arranging transportation for all issue transactions. Fully knowledgeable in all Government and Commercial Traffic Management functions and processes. Directs employees engaged in planning outbound shipping loads, scheduling movement of outbound shipments to include air, surface, small parcel, and sea IAW all applicable contracts, DFTS, SDDC Global Freight Management System (GFMS) applications, and completing required documentation and data entry functions to include Bills of Lading (BOLs), manifests and all other forms of transportation documentation. Plans the use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials based on projected workload on a weekly or monthly basis. Establishes deadlines, priorities, and work sequences IAW general work schedules, methods, and policies established by the Site Manager and/or Alternate Site Manager. Redirects workers and resources to accomplish unanticipated work and to accommodate daily workload fluctuations. Conducts planning of current and future work schedules, providing workload data, estimates, information on staffing needs, and recommendations as to the scheduling of projected work. Ensures work is done properly and efficiently IAW the terms and condition of the contract. Uses WMS and other Government Data Systems to perform the requirements in the PWS. The Transportation Manager reports to site management.
Responsibilities
- Understand and meet established productivity and quality control goals associated with assigned functional area / process.
- Supervise Stock Clerks, Supply Clerks, Supply Analysts, and the Warehouse Supervisor
- Follow established guidelines in performing day-to-day routine tasks as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)/Job Breakdown sheets (JBS), Technical Manuals, and Audit Readiness standards.
- Adhere to Government and Company policies and procedures.
- Ability to use e-mail to receive and disseminate workload tasks and information.
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner with co-workers, site management and CGA regarding operations and policies at the Distribution Center.
- Maintain a safe and secure work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned in association with established Management and Contract Compliance Plan, Storage Plan and workload requirements.
- May be required to attend and pass AMMO 62 (Transportation of hazardous materials)
Prerequisites
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- S. Citizen
- Valid Driver's License
- Fluent speaking, writing, and reading in English
- Obtain and hold Secret level security clearance
Proclivities
- Military or DLA Distribution experience
